The title is very surprising and interesting too because each time we have seen that whenever we put a needle into a water then it’s sinks down. But today I will prove this from the needle floating experiment that a needle and a pin can also float in water. So without taking too much of your time lets jump quickly to the experiment.
Note : Please read all the steps carefully, then only you can perform this experiment.
How does a needle float in a water?
Materials required
1. A bucket or a glass full of water.
2. A normal sewing needle or pin.
3. A toilet paper or any normal paper which can sink quickly in water.
4. A stick
Step 1. Pour the water in a bucket or glass or in any utensil. Leave the water for some time so that it get calm.
Step 2. Gently keep the toilet paper,( if not available you can use any paper which could sink easily in water.) in the water and then keep needle or pin on the paper(very gently).
Step 3. With the help of the stick, try very gently to push the paper in the water so that it sinks down.
Step 4. As the paper start to go down by itself, leave the paper to push down further.
And in a moment you will see a floating needle or pin. It may happen that you don’t get Success in your first attempt but try it again with more care then you will be definitely able to float a needle on the water.
The fact that a needle or a pin float in a water is not a miracle but it’s is based on science. The needle floats in water due to the phenomena of Surface tension.
So if anybody asks you that:
Why does a needle floats in a water?
Then the simple answer is- The needle floats in water due to the surface tension of the water. The surface tension of the water is 72 dynes/cm at 25°C .
